Don't Let Fake Microsoft Technicians Access Your Computer!
Your Computer is probably not Infected
A number of people in the area have been contacted by people claiming to be technicians working for Microsoft Technical Support and that they
have received information that your computer is infected or that they are currently monitoring your system and can see that it is infected
with one or multiple viruses. At this point they usually ask for your permission to connect to your so they can fix the problem and they will
give you a website address to go to that will allow them to connect. They make it appear
they are working to fix the problem but in fact, one of the first things they will do is hack into your email and send their company a
request to purchase their software, then from their end they will send your email a registration confirmation giving them a paper trail
that they can use to say you purchased their software. They will then ask you for your credit card number so you can purchase thier software
otherwise you will get infected again and theirs is the only software that will catch this infection. If you decide not to give them your Credit Card number and they have connected to your computer and fabricated this paper trail they could easily sell it as an outstanding debt to a collection agency.
If you have been a victim to a call such as this, Immediately change all your computer and email passwords and contact your bank and have your old Credit Card
cancelled and a new one issued! Scan for viruses and spyware and perform a complete system cleaning to ensure they haven't left any viruses or backdoors behind.
Also, please contact the police and inform them that you have been the victim of a scam. If mysterious charger appear on your credit card before you have a chance to cancel it and have a new one issued, you may be glad you have a police report when dealing with the Credit Card Company to have the mysterious charges settles through their online protection program.
Unfortunately there may not be much you can do about this initial software purchase because you gave them your credit card number.
Microsoft will never contact you about viruses on your computer!
